Registration Renewals

Baton Rouge DMV |Registration Renewals

In the state of Louisiana the registration renewal process is the same as neweing your license plates. Every Louisiana resident is required to renew their license plates every two years. This time frame ensures that vehicles operate within the safe driving guidelines and can pass state inspections. The only time you complete an actual registration is when you first move into the state and are filing for the first time, or you recently purchased a vehicle and are registering the vehicle for the first time.

Louisiana Registration Renewal Notice

Vehicles registered in LA must be renewed every 2 years. Within several weeks of your license plate’s expiration date, you should receive a renewal notice from the OMV. The OMV renewal notice contains:

  • Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).
  • License plate number.
  • Vehicle expiration date.
  • Renewal fee.
  • Renewal ID number.

Replacement Certificates, Stickers, and License Plates

Paying your OMV renewal fees is not all you need to do to ensure your vehicle is legally registered in the state. You must also make sure that you have your Louisiana plates, registration certificate, and plate decals at all times. If any of those items become lost or damaged, you need to get duplicates through Lobdell Auto Title as soon as possible.
